There is no doubt that we all need to challenge our conceptions of what we find attractive. But as someone who has culturally, politically, socially, and individually experienced racism, such internalizations of the white beauty standard are hard to overcome. I often still find myself comparing myself to white people despite having the knowledge of how constructed this standard is. But what’s even more aggravating is when white queer radicals (mostly cis-males) still perpetuate this standard and don’t seem to challenge their own shit. We get it. You’re cute and white. Now, stop reblogging pictures of white porn because you’re just perpetuating centuries of cultural racism that has plagued entire communities of color. The white beauty standard has literally torn us to shreds. It has made us uncomfortable in our own bodies. We get plastic surgery to look just like you. We use hair products to look just like you. We stay out of the sun to look just like you. We marry white people to have our children look just like you. I’m done. If you’re not actively challenging your shit, white queer radicals, then you are not an ally
